Turn An Old Tin Can Into A Special Winter Nest For The Birds In Your Neighborhood

Come wintertime, I can’t help but worry about the birds living in my neighborhood. That’s why I’m loving this cute and quick bird feeder craft!

In wintertime, birds that don’t migrate south still have to forage for seeds and bugs. That can be a major task if there’s snow on the ground.

Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to give them a helping hand. In the past, we’ve tried out pretty, delicate bird feeders that are perfect for spring. Now, for the colder winter months, we’re focusing on a more robust version of the same tutorial, made from an ordinary tin can!

Materials:

  • Clean tin can
  • Paint, if desired
  • Fabric
  • Twine
  • Glue
  • Pinecone
  • Peanut butter
  • Bird seed

Instructions:

  1. Paint your tin can, if desired. You can create any pattern you like to suit your backyard! Painting on blue and green designsmight help attract birds.
  2. Wrap a strip of fabric around the can and glue into place. This is a good spot for birds to land.
  3. Tie twine around the middle of can and glue into place for extra security. Set aside.
  4. Dip pinecone in melted peanut butter until covered, then roll in birdseed. Let dry slightly. These high calorie foods will keep birds nourished!
  5. Use a small dab of glue to fix the pinecone inside of the can.
  6. Hang the can from a tree, for all the birds to see!
