Back when I was a kid in grade school, I’d always want to go out and get completely new supplies at the start of each school year.
My mom wasn’t so keen on buying us brand new sets of notebooks, pens, folders, and other classroom supplies. Instead, she taught us how to brilliantly recycle supplies that we had left over from the pervious semester. She not only taught us how to be economical, but she also showed us how to get creative with one or two tools.
Instructables user and arts and crafts lover Kyliecame up with a few extremely simple DIY crafts that are perfect for the back-to-school season. Each of the crafts only needs three tools, and you’ll very likely (in fact, most definitely) already have them all on hand.
There’s a chance that you might be familiar with the crafts you’re about to see, or that you’ve made a variation of them before. Whatever the case, let us know what you think in the comments!
1. Paper Clip Bookmarks
You’ll only need some washi tape, paper clips, and a pair of scissors. First, cut a piece of tape that’s about twice the size of the bookmark handle that you want.
Next, unfold the paper clip wire slightly and slide the tape through.
Make sure the length of the tape measures equally at both ends of the paper clip.
Lastly, close the paper clip wire, and fold the tape in half.
2. Decorative Pencils
You’ll need some regular sharpened pencils, washi tape, and scissors. First, measure the length of the piece of tape you’d like to cover the pencil with.
Next, wrap the piece of tape around the pencil. You’ll most likely need an additional piece of tape to cover it completely.
And there you have it! You can use different colored washi tapes, and end up with a collection of festive-looking pencils that your kids will love.
3. Colorful Personalized Notebook
You’ll need some washi tape, scissors, and a notebook. You can paint over the cover of the notebook to help cover up any unwanted colors underneath.
This is one design that you can go with: line up different colored pieces of tape at an angle, starting from the middle section of the notebook.
Fan out the colored tape, until both sides of the notebook are covered.
